Canada Red Chokecherry (Prunus virginiana) Hardy, pyramidal tree. White flowers borne in a raceme appear in April and May. Attractive, dense foliage emerges green then changes to red as the leaves mature and then turns reddish-purple in the fall. Flowers are followed by edible 1/3" reddish purple fruit that can be used for jam, jelly, pies, sauce and wine. Fruit also attracts birds. Prefers good drainage and aerated conditions. Matures at 20 to 30' with 15 to 25' spread. Needs full sunlight. This plant does sucker freely in the landscape and should not be considered maintenance free. Extremely hardy. Multi-stem grown with three or more stems.
